About Eldred Sheet Metal Works

In 1946, Eldred Sheet Metal Works was founded by Mr. Eldred. After World War II, Mr. Eldred started forming sheet metal for the rice producers in the Houston area. Around 1959, Mr. Eldred gave the business to his daughter Willie Mae and her husband Ben Boswell. They operated Eldred Sheet Metal until 1963 when they sold it to Cecil Callahan. Cecil continued to operate Eldred as a sheet metal fabrication shop for the next 30 years.

In 1993, Milton Smoot, Sr. purchased Eldred from Cecil. Milton and Cecil had become acquaintances while Milton was a sales rep for Ryerson. In 1986, Milton retired from Ryerson after a 32 year career in the steel industry. After Milton’s retirement, he started a water and ice venture in Mexico, eventually selling the operation to his Mexican partners. Upon Milton’s purchase of Eldred Sheet Metal, he began to make improvements by updating and adding equipment that was capable of shearing, punching, bending, and rolling heavier plate. The result was a custom metal fabrication shop capable of working with materials from 16 Ga. (.0625”) up to 3 inches thick. Some of the equipment added was a CNC 120” X 240” Plasma cutting table, 400, 150, and 80 Ton Press Brakes, ¾” Plate Shear, ¼” Plate Shear, 125 & 60 Ton Ironworkers, and a 15” Horizontal Wells Band saw.

Another mainstay of Eldred Sheet Metal works is Robert Gurrola. Robert has worked for Eldred for more than 47 years. He has shared his knowledge of metal fabrication with the employees of Eldred to make Eldred one of the most trusted shops in Texas. His reputation is well known throughout the Houston area. Armando Trevino is another employee of Eldred, and Robert’s son in law, who has more than 32 years with Eldred Sheet Metal Works. Together, Milton and the staff of Eldred Sheet Metal Works, can handle your custom metal fabrication needs.

Today, Eldred services customers locally as well as internationally. Eldred has serviced thousands of customers since Milton Smoot became owner.
